2024 CLSSA Showcase

September 15th, 2024 | Loreto College Performing Arts Centre

The CLSSA Showcase is one of the most exciting events of the year for the Community Languages sector. It brings together a variety of communities to celebrate cultural diversity and creativity. Supported by the Department for Education, this annual event highlights the important role that art and performance plays in fostering languages and culture in multicultural South Australia.

Art Showcase: Celebrating Sports and the Olympics

Since 2022 the Art Showcase has given students from Community Language Schools (CLS) the opportunity to share their artistic talent and win prizes. This year, the theme honored the 2024 Paris Olympics. Students expressed their love for sports by creating visual art, 3D handmade items, and writing. They highlighted favorite sports, important moments in sports history, and even ancient sports they wished to see return to the Olympics.

The response was huge, with hundreds of students participating and a record 99 state finalist entries from 17 schools. Thirty-three winners were awarded across four age groups.

Congratulations to the winners!

Performance Showcase

It wouldn’t be a CLSSA Showcase without a show! Over 70 students from nine CLS, sang and danced their way across the Loreto College Performing Arts Centre stage. It was a feast for the eyes that had the audience tapping their feet and dancing in their seats.

We had captivating performances from:

  • Egyptian Coptic School
  • South Australian Chinese Community School
  • Adelaide Marathi Vidyalaya
  • Bangladesh School Australia
  • Bangla School
  • Vietnamese Community School in South Australia
  • Uyghur Language School
  • Bangladeshi Community School
  • South Australia Tamil School

A Special Thank You

Our heartfelt thanks go to the judging panel, who had the difficult task of selecting the Art Showcase winners. A special mention to Mick Bolognese, Programs and Policy Officer at the Multicultural Affairs team of the Department of Premier and Cabinet, and Li (Lily) Liu, Principal of the Overseas Chinese Association of SA Inc. Ethnic Chinese Language and Cultural School, for their thoughtful evaluations.

We are also deeply grateful to the Honourable Mira El Dannawi MLC for attending the Showcase for the second consecutive year to award prizes to our state finalists and winners.

The CLSSA Showcase wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of CLS educators and volunteers. They play a key role in promoting language and culture in South Australia, helping to grow future leaders of our multicultural communities. Thank you for your passion and dedication throughout the schooling year.

Thank you for being a star at the 2024 CLSSA Showcase!
